Morning’s early sun
across the letters of the
old five-and-dime store.
San Antonio, Texas
Thanks! But it wasn’t me – that’s the photography gods smiling down!
Wonderful shot, Mel. Btw, can you explain to me why the stores were called “five and dime” and not “nickel and dime”?
Nope. I cannot. The non-parallel term actually drives my grammarian self a little crazy.
Maybe it’s because “nickel and dime” has a different connotation? But where in linguistic history does “nickel and dime” fall, compared to “five and dime”? It’s sort of starting to sound like a research paper. A research paper that I don’t want to write…
So good! What a shot 😃
Thanks, Julie. This is just one more time that I was lucky to be in the right place…
